Bio: It has been a life long dream of mine to compete and finish the Baja 1000. I have ridden the deserts and mountains of the West Coast for thousands of miles, including several trips on the Baja peninsula. I have attended every Baja 1000 race since 1996. I have made many friends and acquaintances with every trip to Baja.

Bio: I have never competed in an off-road race before but when my brother Paul asked me to join him in the Baja 1000; I could not turn it down. As a kid, I spent time riding off-road with my brothers. But as an adult, I mainly ride street bikes. When I went to Baja in 2003 and 2005 my passion for off-road riding was reborn

Bio: I started riding at the age of 12. I immediately developed a passion for it. I was forced to pick it up quickly in order to keep up with my friends; who had already been riding many years. After riding many terrains, I realized desert was the one for me. Nothing can beat flying on your bike at top speed and holding on for pure survival. I want to race the Baja 1000 to test and push my riding abilities. My hero and the man who inspired much of my interest in racing the Baja 1000 is Johnny Campbell.

I got my first motorcycle at 15 years old. It was a used 1970 HT1 90cc. At 17, I got a ’71 Honda CB 450 then a Norton 850 Commando at 21. I have been working with motorcycles for more than 20 years as a mechanic, service writer or manager for Honda of Raleigh. I have competitively raced various street bikes throughout the 90’s. I recently decided to get my first dirt bike, a 2000 Honda XR650R. After seeing “Dust to Glory”, I took off cross country in a van with the XR to see the 2005 Baja 1000. There in San Felipe, I met the Goldsmith clan at Pete's camp.

I've been seriously riding motorcycles for about five years now. My first real
bike was a KDX 250, which is perfect for the type of trail riding I like to do
up in the mountains. Up to that point, I had been riding my 1983 Honda ATC 70,which my dad bought me for Christmas that year when I was four years old. It seemed huge and really powerful at the time but now if fits me perfect. It still starts on the first pull to this day.
I just recently purchased a brand new, fresh out of the crate 2003 XR650R and
its crazy fast. I love riding that bike out in the desert. I'm looking
forward to taking it down to Baja soon.
A couple of friends got me interested in riding. They each had bikes and let me
take a turn from time to time. Once I got my KDX, we started riding locally in
the Santa Clara River bottom, or up to Gorman, or for the last few years out to
the desert, north of California City. |

Bio: A veteran of 20+ sorties into Baja. He has been a crew member for 2 Baja race teams in the 90's. Bill is the Gringo you want to have out in the middle of nowhere with a Corona in one hand and a Leatherman tool in the other saying “yeah, we can fix that." He is the navigation, logistics and radio guru that will get the team from point A to punta B. Se habla "Baja Logic".

Bio: In the summer of 2002 I interviewed Bill Klope, team doc, for a story I was writing on guys who build four-wheelers and travel into Baja. The next year, out of the blue, Bill invited me to join him, his father, and some friends—including Paul, Tim, and Mark Goldsmith—who were traveling together to watch the Baja 1000 race. We camped in the desert south of Ensenada at a point beside the course where we watched the racers pass by in the morning, and then again on their return well past midnight. I was hooked, and I attended the race the next year as well. This year I will attend as editor of Gear Solutions magazine, the official team sponsor.
